| What Is It?
Apple Computer, Inc. has released a major security update, Apple Security Update 2005-007, which applies to the following products, among others.
• Mac OS X versions 10.3.9 (Panther) and 10.4.2 (Tiger) has vulnerabilities that can lead to remote code execution and bypassing security schemes. Some of these can be exploited using specially formatted Microsoft Word and Rich Text Format (RTF) documents.
• The Directory Services component of the Mac OS X Server, versions 10.3.9 (Panther) and 10.4.2 (Tiger), can be bypassed to execute arbitrary code without authenticating to the server.
• Apple Safari Web browser is vulnerable to arbitrary command execution, a type of remote code execution, via URLs embedded in PDF files, and to bypassing of security restrictions, allowing remote code execution via URLs embedded in rich text documents.
What Should I Do?
If you have a Macintosh computer that runs OS X "Panther" or "Tiger," you should follow the step by step instructions given at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106704 to update your system.
If you use Apple software, you should review "Apple security updates," at http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=61798 regularly.
If you have an older Macintosh, this bulletin does not apply to you.
If you have a Microsoft Windows machine, this bulletin does not apply to you.
