What it is Phishing is trying to get account information through providing a false or misleading link to a message that looks like it comes from an established entity (such as eBay, PayPal, your bank, etc.). These links lead to a website where - once you put your information in - the people who create the email can harvest your personal information and use your account. There is a new phishing mail out that purports to be from eBay saying that you've been selected for payment from a class-action lawsuit. You're instructed to click a link, log in, and enter your bank account info for direct transfer. There is no such suit and entering your information will probably result in your account being used to authorize illegal transfers, bids, withdrawls etc. eBay (like PayPal) will never send a link if they are informing you of some action. They'll ask you to log into their site manually and tell you where to go from there. What you should do Ignore these emails. If you use eBay all the time - consider getting the ebay toolbar that helps you identify when you're NOT on an eBay site that might be spoofing the real eBay site.
