What Is It? The Apple QuickTime audio and video player has multiple image and media file handling vulnerabilities. Some of the vulnerabilities allow remote access to your computer; these are among the most dangerous kinds of security problems. If you use the Apple QuickTime player, you should upgrade to version 7.0.4, which corrects these vulnerabilities. The affected versions run on the following operating systems.
  • Apple Mac OS X
  • Microsoft Windows XP
  • Microsoft Windows 2000
What You Should Do? Install an update, as indicated below.
  • Mac OS X users should use the Mac OS X Software Update feature to download and install Apple QuickTime 7.0.4. Consider scheduling Software Update to check for updates automatically (this option is enabled by default).
  • Microsoft Windows users should upgrade to Apple QuickTime 7.0.4.
    • Beginning with at least version 6.5.2, which I have installed, you can check for updates from within the QuickTime program. You should find a QuickTime icon in the right end of your task bar, close to the clock.
    • You may also download the new version at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/quicktime704.html.
