What is it Yet again a virus maker has chosen social engineering (trying to fool people) to spread their virus. The latest is a more advanced version of the GIBE worm called Swen.mm by Norton, and McAfee. This version probably took as it's template recent security advisories that Microsoft sent out - wholesale - and added their own information and an executable attachment (the worm) to make it look more realistic. As usual - Microsoft NEVER EVER sends out update executables via email. You should immediately delete any email you get with such an attachment (though if you're properly configured and updated your anti-virus should catch it). Current versions of both Norton and McAfee detect and expunge the worm - but you need to have updated as of today for successful detection. The worm looks like an official MS update, complete with icons and graphics stolen from other MS messages. What should I do Ignore the message - delete it if you get it. Microsoft NEVER EVER sends out updates via email. Be sure you have properly updated virus signatures and that your email mail scanning is working. More information Norton: www.sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/w32.swen.a\@mm.html McAfee: us.mcafee.com/virusInfo/default.asp?id=description&virus_k=100662 This concludes this viruswarning notice.
