Welcome to the Viruswarning forums. All your original content has been ported to the new forums as well as new content and additional opportunities to interact with the authors of Viruswarn.com. You can always access old content at www.leedrake.com/forum . You may find some formatting was lost in the conversion and the older versions of the posts to be more readable....
But at least it's all here.
Enjoy!

| What Is It?
A VirusWarn subscriber called to my attention today that there is a documented conflict between Outlook Express 6 and McAfee VirusScan 4.5 or 6. If you have that combination of software installed and you change the view on a message folder to show all messages, they will disappear.
What Should I Do?
First, determine whether you are affected.
If you use another program, such as Microsoft Outlook, Eudora, or Netscape Messenger for email, you are unaffected.
If you use another virus scanner, such as Norton Anti-Virus or AVG, you are unaffected.
Choose About from the Help menu in Outlook Express. The version is displayed in the About Box.
Right click the VShield icon, which should be on the task bar near the clock.
If there is no VShield icon, look for a VirusScan Console icon in the same general location and right click it.
Choose About from the context menu. The version is displayed in the upper right corner of the About Box.
If your version of VirusScan is 7.0 or greater or your version of Outlook Express is 5.5 or lower, you are unaffected and there is nothing more for you to do.
Immediate Relief
A close reading of the article suggests that it may be sufficient to configure VirusScan to scan only specified extensions. Though this is less than ideal in today's climate, it may get you some breathing room.
To do so, do one of the following procedures.
VShield
Right click the VShield icon, which should be on the task bar near the clock.
Choose Download Scan from the list of property sheet tabs.
Enter your VirusScan administrator password if prompted.
Select either Default Files or User Specified Files from among the radio buttons in the box labeled What to Scan.
If you choose User Specified Files, click the Extensions button and make sure that dbx is not listed among the extensions.
Click the Apply button to save the settings.
Select the System Scan icon and repeat steps 4 through 6.
Click the OK button to close the VShield property sheet.
VirusScan Console
Right click the VirusScan Console icon, which should be on the task bar near the clock.
Click Restore from the context menu.
Select (highlight) VShield from the list of tasks.
Choose Properties from the Task menu, or click the Properties button on the tool bar.
Click on the Download Scan tab.
Click the Properties on the lower edge of the tabbed dialog box.
Repeat for Scan My Computer and any other scanning tasks shown in the list. The AutoUpdate and AutoUpgrade tasks require no attention.
Close the VirusScan Console.
Permanent Solution
The current version of the retail VirusScan product is 8.0; we recommend that you upgrade with the annual subscription option. See http://us.mcafee.com/root/catalog.asp?catid=av for details.
