AOL has fixed the flaw in AIM that allows a buffer overflow. They did so by limiting the size of packets going through their servers - a commendable effort because it doesn't require any update on the parts of their several million users. AOL did a phenomenal job in releasing this patch within 24 hours of publicity, though they'd been notified of the vulnerability well in advance of the public release, and had taken no action. As usual, full disclosure forced the issue making it important to them to patch the product. Here is a quote from a ZDNet (www.zdnet.com) artical on the issue: "The company fixed the problem on its AIM server so users did not have to download a patch for their own computers or change their settings, according to Weinstein. "It was resolved within 24 hours. We heard no reports from users that anyone was affected by it," he said." Lee Drake Aztek Computer Solutions, Inc. 39 N.
