This patch comes from Microsoft for FULL outlook only - not outlook express. What it does is force you to SAVE any attachment to disk and run it from there that is an executable. It does the same for potentially macro-carrying attachments such as word and excel files. You may find this to be a bit of a pain the tush because you can no longer just double click these sorts of attachments to open them. If that is ok with you then by all means apply this patch. Be sure you get the correct one for your version of Outlook. Be aware that this does NOT prevent you from running the virus, it just makes it a multiple step process (save to disk then run). Also be aware that if you DO save the script to disk then run it you will NOT get any warning (unlike now where Outlook at least WARNS you that you're about to run an executable when you double click it). This patch doesn't really address the larger security issues of having a scriptable runtime program on your computer - it just makes it less easy to accidentally get infected.
